Pico de Gato awarded with wacky pet name title

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A pet insurance company has compiled the top 10 wackiest dog and cat names in the country, and the title of the wackiest cat name came from right here in San Diego.

Out of 485,000 pets, Pico de Gato took the crown. The owners have another cat named Mu, like the Greek symbol that means micro, so they wanted to find a name that was smaller than micro.

"And so, we were like Nano, no.  Pico, hmm, Pico De Gato, that would be cute because its, it's a play off pico de gallo so, being from San Diego that kind of worked out well," owner Caroline Rye said.

Aside from being the reigning wacky cat name title holder, the three-year-old enjoys chasing laser beams and going on long walks.

The title on the dog side went to a poodle named Chewbarka.
