VISTA (CNS) - Arraignment is now scheduled Wednesday for a suspected drunken driver accused of going the wrong way on Interstate 15 near Via Rancho Parkway in Escondido, killing a recently retired father of five riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

Brian Joseph Webb, 34, of Murrieta, was arrested shortly after Saturday's head-on crash on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter, driving under the influence causing bodily injury, driving under the influence with a prior conviction, hit-and-run resulting in death and driving with a suspended license, according to jail records.

Webb was driving a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 when he entered northbound I-15 the wrong way from the northbound Del Lago offramp around 12:35 p.m. Saturday, the California Highway Patrol reported.

About the same time, neurophysiologist Robin Vaughan, 60, of Escondido was riding his 2002 Harley-Davidson northbound in the same lane and was struck head-on by Webb's vehicle, the CHP reported.

Officers found open containers of alcohol in Webb's truck, according to the CHP. He was arrested at the scene.

Vaughan and his wife of 40 years, Donetta, were preparing to serve an 18-month mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, U-T San Diego reported. In addition to his five children and wife, Vaughan is survived by 15 grandchildren, according to the newspaper.
