MIRAMAR (CNS) - Roughly 300 Miramar-based Marines returned home from deployment Wednesday, marking the local Marine Corps air station's largest single homecoming event of the year.

The Marines, who are assigned to the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, returned from a deployment to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, according to Miramar's public affairs office.

The Marines, who had been deployed for six months or longer, were flown in around 2:30 p.m., Cpl. Steven Posy said.

They were greeted by family and friends at the air station's passenger terminal.

Alexis Marzan, wife of Sgt. Jerry Marzan Jr., told a local news station her husband's homecoming felt like the whole world was lifted off her shoulders.

"It's just good to have him back, to see him," she said. "He looks so much different, he's bigger, stronger, just as handsome as ever though."

During their deployment, Marines provided aerial support that included fire support, medical evacuations and transporting troops, Posy said.
