OCEANSIDE (CNS) - An autopsy is pending Sunday on a 41-year-old Escondido man fatally injured Saturday at 6 p.m. when he crashed his motorcycle into a center divide guardrail while exiting Interstate-5.
"The man was riding his 2011 Yamaha R1 motorcycle northbound on Interstate-5 and exciting to westbound Mission Avenue," said Oceanside CHP PIO Jim Bettencourt. "According to witnesses, he was traveling at a high rate of speed and doing wheelies prior to colliding into the guardrail."
Medics responding to a 911 call found the downed motorcyclist unresponsive.
He was transported by air to Scripps La Jolla Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 7:25 p.m.
He was not identified pending notification of next of kin.
It was not known whether drugs or alcohol were a factor.
