SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A big clean-up is taking place in Mission Valley, and it's quite a sight.

Teams of horses are being brought into a canyon in the area to help clear out trees, brush and non-native plants that are inhibiting proper drainage into the San Diego River.

Crews are cutting down the trees. The horses then pull the trees over to a crane where they are then lifted out of the canyon.

Authorities say the horses are being used because they cause less damage to the area than heavy equipment.
