Pedestrian critically injured after being hit by truck
EL CAJON (CNS) - A 69-year-old man sustained life-threatening injuries as he walked into an El Cajon roadway from behind a parked vehicle and was struck by a pickup truck, police said.
The man walked out into the 1400 block of Sunnyland Ave., near Jamacha Road, shortly after 8 p.m. Friday and was struck by the oncoming Toyota pickup, according to El Cajon police Lt. Frank La Haye. He was taken to a hospital.
The Toyota's driver stopped immediately after the crash and was cooperating with traffic investigators, La Haye said. Neither speed nor alcohol appeared to have been factors in the crash, he said.
El Cajon police said pedestrians walking near roadways should wear bright colors, especially at night, use designated crosswalks whenever possible and look both ways when crossing the street.
Police asked anyone with additional information on the crash to call the traffic division at (619) 441-1632.
