SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Some of San Diego's top chefs came together on the deck of the USS Midway Museum Thursday to promote the kickoff of Restaurant Week.
The festivities will start Friday night with a special event along the Broadway Pier.
A portion of the proceeds from the event will go to the San Diego Food Bank's Food 4 Kids Backpack Program.
"And that's where they send kids that are basically suffering from hunger over the weekend at their houses. So they come back to Monday not ready to go. What they do is they send them back with a backpack of food. They come back on Monday, hopefully energized, having eaten good meals over the weekend," California Restaurant Association - San Diego President Mike Morton, Jr. said.
San Diego Restaurant Week officially gets underway on Sunday.
