3 suspects arrested after foot chase in City Heights
SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Three men who were pulled over in a stolen car in City Heights Thursday jumped out and made a failed attempt to evade arrest on foot, with one nabbed by officers following a reckless dash across Interstate 15.
An officer stopped the gray four-door Chevrolet sedan at 41st Street and Myrtle Avenue shortly before 2 p.m., according to San Diego police Detective Gary Hassen.
As the patrolman approached, the two occupants of the car got out and bolted into the neighborhood, he said.
Officers gave chase and fanned out through the area in search of the suspects, one of whom ran to the west across a bridge over I-15, then scaled a fence next to the busy freeway and sprinted back to the east on the traffic lanes.
Dodging oncoming vehicles, the man managed to make it to the other side of the commuter route unharmed, only to be promptly taken into custody near the intersection of Central Avenue and Dwight Street, Hassen said. The other suspect was detained nearby a few minutes later.
One of the men was taken to a hospital for treatment of dog-bite injuries he suffered during the pursuit, apparently as he fled through a residential yard, according to police.
The suspects' names were not immediately available.
