CHULA VISTA (CBS 8) - A retired navy man is helping to raise money for the Chula Vista Veteran's Home in an unusual way.
Steve Hamilton built a makeshift jail and has locked himself in until he raises $5,000. He says sponsors are down for the Veteran's Home Annual Walk and Christmas Party, so he decided to do something different to raise money and he may be there for awhile.
"I have all the amenities of home. I have a potty, I have a TV, VCR with DVD's, a radio. I got a little bed, a cot, a chair, water," explained Hamilton. "And if you want to donate, I got a jar here to come and donate some money."
Hamilton says he's been there since Monday. So far he's raised about $750.
If you'd like to donate, stop by the VFW in the 200 block of I Street.
