SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - The family of a murdered Carlsbad mother has received the pen Governor Jerry Brown used to sign a bill honoring her memory into law.
AB-2467, also known as "Kathy's Law," is named for Kathy Scharbarth. She was killed by her ex-boyfriend days after getting a restraining order against him.
The law grants judges the power to place GPS trackers on individuals with restraining orders.
Assemblyman Ben Hueso introduced the bill. On Wednesday, he gave the pen used to sign it to Scharbarth's daughter Madison.
"I'd like to thank everyone for their support of 'Kathy's Law.' It has meant so much to me to see and hear about so many people who cared about the bill. And a special thank you to Governor Brown," she said.
The law goes into effect in January 2013.
