SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Brush fires of unknown origin scorched several open acres in two rural East County communities Friday, briefly threatening homes but causing no reported structural damage or injuries.
The first of the blazes erupted shortly after 10:30 a.m. in a field off the 500 block of Matthew Court in Ramona, according to Cal Fire.
Ground crews and personnel aboard two air tankers and two helicopters were able to contain the burn area to about four acres, said Mike Mohler, a fire captain with the state agency. The fire came within several hundred feet of several homes, he said.
About 11 a.m., another blaze erupted off Lyons Valley Road, near Skyline Truck Trail in Jamul. Ground and flight crews were able to quickly subdue the flames, which blackened about an acre, according to Mohler.
The causes of the fires were under investigation.
