Cool zone in El Cajon

Posted: Updated:

EL CAJON (CBS 8) – It was another very warm day, especially for folks in the East County, but there is one very cool spot in town, right in the middle of El Cajon.

It's El Cajon's most recognized building, famous not for it's cockeyed architecture or tilted tower, but rather for it's frozen treats that beat the heat.

"Everybody looking forward to this yogurt on a hot day like this. We're busy every day, but this day really brings out the customers," said Shari Newquist with the Yogurt Mill.

For the past 35 years, the Yogurt Mill has provided chill thrills for its faithful customers.

"We've kept huge servings prices down. We have coupons out there so everybody that comes in here can get a good deal," continued Shari.

Some popular flavors include: orange vanilla and very berry, peanut butter and chocolate crème with nuts and cappuccino, chocolate and vanilla with crushed Oreos.

One reason for Yogurt Mill's continued success is the lost art of customer service. With employees like Elizabeth, who has worked her for 5 1/2 years.

"You become like known. People see you and they're like, ‘I know I know you from somewhere.' And you're like, ‘yogurt mill' and they're like, ‘yes,'" said Elizabeth.

Another scorcher in El Cajon. The winds of political change are blowing. And it's rush hour at the leaning tower, where their motto is:

"Everything's crooked, but the management," said Shari.

In the El Cajon steam, there's a steady stream for the treat that is keen, Yogurt Mill long may you lean.
