Motorcyclist killed after running from police

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A motorcyclist is dead Wednesday after trying to out run police in the Chollas Creek area during a high speed chase overnight.

The chase began shortly after midnight, after a man on a motorcycle failed to pull over for what police say was a routine traffic stop.

Police report that the high performance motorcycle made an illegal turn onto Interstate 805, then pulled into the lot near the freeway. The police officer who was chasing him tried to pull him over, but before he could do that the driver sped off eastbound on Home Avenue. Police say the driver managed to make another illegal move by passing another car before he lost control near Euclid Avenue.

"He was obviously traveling a very high rate of speed and it was a corner where he lost control. He illegally passed on a two lane road," said SDPD Lt. Paul Rorrison. "The officers found the victim on the dirt embankment and started to perform CPR in attempt to save his life."

As of 6 a.m., traffic was moving again on Euclid Avenue.
