New central library celebrates topping out of iconic dome

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Construction on the new downtown library reached a major milestone Friday.

City leaders gathered downtown to commemorate the placement of the final structural beam in the construction of the new central library's iconic new dome.

The nine-story, nearly 300,000 square foot library is a $185 million project.

Construction is set to finish in March, with a grand opening set for July.
