Posted: Updated:

ENCINITAS (CNS) - An investigation was underway Monday into a collision in Encinitas that killed a 25-year-old San Marcos man on a motorcycle.

The collision at South Coast Highway 101 and K Street occurred just before 12:30 p.m. Sunday, according to San Diego County sheriff's Deputy Brenda Sipley. The man was one of three motorcyclists riding in a line in the No. 1 lane on southbound South Coast Highway 101, she said in a statement.

As the motorcyclists approached the intersection, a 69-year-old man driving a Toyota Camry was stopped for a stop sign on eastbound K Street, she said, adding the Camry driver then entered the intersection, striking the lead biker.

The San Diego County Medical Examiner's reported that the motorcyclist -- a 25-year-old man who lived in San Marcos -- was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:45 p.m. His name was withheld pending family notification.

Medics took the driver and sole occupant of the Camry to Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas with non-life-threatening injuries, sheriff's Lt. Kelly Martinez said.
