SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A passing canoeist found a body floating in the San Diego River in Mission Valley Monday.
The discovery off the 7400 block of Hazard Center Drive was reported shortly after 12:30 p.m., according to San Diego police.
Lifeguards recovered the body from the waterway, SDPD Detective Gary Hassen said. It was not immediately clear if there was anything suspicious about the fatality, he said.
The Medical Examiner's Office was called in to take custody of the remains. The county agency will seek to identify the deceased person and determine the cause of death.
