Strong fall storm moving through San Diego

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The first storm of autumn brought cooler temperatures and modest, scattered rainfall to the San Diego area Thursday.

The unsettled system out of the Pacific Northwest began dousing the region with light showers in the mid-morning, according to the National Weather Service.

The precipitation continued throughout the day, gradually dissipating in coastal communities as the clouds drifted eastward.

The moisture totals across the county varied widely, with some locales collecting fairly significant amounts while others got traces at most, the NWS reported.

Over a 12-hour period ending at 5:30 p.m. the storm dropped 0.7 of an inch of rain in northern Poway, 0.65 in Oceanside, 0.45 at Ramona Airport, 0.39 at Lake Wohlford, 0.3 in Fallbrook, 0.16 at SeaWorld and 0.09 at Lindbergh Field.

The showers should dwindle further tonight before ceasing entirely sometime Friday morning, making way for clearing skies, meteorologist Tina Stall said. The weekend is expected to bring a gradual warming trend along with fair weather, she stated.

Some of the footage in Shannon Handy's video report was shot using a GoPro camera.
