Absolutely A-"mazing"

RAMONA (CBS 8) - The search for the great pumpkin resumes this week in Ramona at a local ranch, where you can enjoy all kinds of fun fall activities.

On the north end of Ramona, just before Highway 79 serpentines into the backcounty, you'll find Mountain Valley Ranch all decked out in its fall finery. It's centerpiece - a 2 1/2 acre corn maze.

"We start this process about the end of May. The corn takes about 100 days to grow its cycle," explained Dave Sullivan with Mountain Valley Ranch.

The maze is then hoed out by hand and then, visitors like my friend Daxton, who let us a strap a small camera on him, wade into this field of dreams. But that's just one of the attractions at this working ranch.

"We have about three acres of pumpkins, growing everywhere," said Dave. "People come out Larry. They just walk through here and they can pick a pumpkin right off the vine."

Or you can gaze at the goats as they graze on their maze.

"They scurry to the top of the poles and eat their food up there," continued Dave.

My favorite attraction at Mountain Valley Ranch is the air compressor gun.

"We've got to first add a little cornhusk here, put that in there guys. We pack it in with the packer stick," added Larry.

Mountain Valley Ranch is a non-stop photo op and a cozy place to cuddle up to some country comforts and meet your country cousins, like Taco a one-year-old buffalo.

So, don't scratch Mountain Valley Ranch off your Halloween to do list. It's a living tribute to simpler times, when farming forged the family bond and a further reminder that we live in a special place.

Some of the footage in this video was shot using a GoPro camera.
