Chula Vista police seek suspects in brutal attack

CHULA VISTA (CNS) - Authorities asked the public for help in identifying three suspects who assaulted and then brutally battered a woman without provocation on a South Bay roadside, leaving her seriously injured.

Patrol officers responding to a report of a disturbance in the 200 block of Broadway in Chula Vista about 2:30 a.m. Thursday found the 57-year old victim lying unconscious in the street, according to police.

Medics took her to a trauma center, where was admitted to an intensive-care unit with facial fractures, broken teeth and cracked ribs, Lt. Lon Turner said.

Investigators documenting the scene of the assault found security-camera video showing a gray or silver four-door Mitsubishi Gallant pulling over next to the woman and a young man in dark-colored clothing getting out and confronting her, according to Turner. A moment later, he punched the victim in the face, knocking her to the ground.

The assailant and a companion who also had exited the sedan then got back into it and drove off.

A few minutes later, the vehicle returned, and the same two men got out again, along with a third, Turner said. The trio then attacked the victim again, stomping and kicking her in the face and body before speeding off in the car.

The assailants appeared to be light-skinned men in their late teens to mid-20s, Turner said. One was wearing a dark T-shirt, dark pants and black shoes, while another was clad in a white T-shirt with dark sleeves, a white hat and black shoes. The third had on black pants and no shirt, the lieutenant said.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call Chula Vista police at (619) 691-5151.
