SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 4-year-old miniature pincher who was abandoned in an Oceanside parking lot after being choked and badly beaten is on the road to recovery and will be available for adoption starting Friday, the humane society announced Thursday.
The dog, named Marissa, was in a crate when she was found by San Diego Humane Society officers on Sept. 12 in the 2200 block of El Camino Real, according to the agency.
"The injuries indicate that Marissa was (choked) and beaten before she was abandoned in the crate," said Randy Lawrence, director of humane law enforcement for the humane society. "We've conducted an investigation to find the person responsible, but we have very little information about what happened to Marissa."
Marissa received immediate medical care from the humane society and the SPCA and is doing well today, according to the humane society. She will be available for adoption starting at 11 a.m. at the humane society's main campus at 5500 Gaines St. Adoption requests are handled on a first come, first served basis.
Anyone with information about Marissa's injuries or her prior owners was asked to call the humane society at (619) 243-3466 or San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477. Information leading to an arrest in the case could be worth a reward of up to $1,000, according to Crime Stoppers.
