SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Construction of San Diego State University's new student union building reached a major milestone Thursday.
Students turned out to watch as crews hoisted the final steel beam of what will become the new 200,000-square-foot Aztec Student Center. The project has been years in the making, and is inching closer to its grand opening next year.
"A lot of people were kind of doubting, you know, when this project was going to be completed. And now that the structure is finally up, everyone's like, 'OK! I see what's going to happen at SDSU in the future.' And it pumps everybody up," A.S. President Rob O'Keefe said.
The new Aztec Student Center will feature state-of-the-art student government offices, a bowling and games center and new restaurants and cafes.
