Abused little dog gets a fresh, loving start

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 4-year-old miniature pincher who was choked, badly beaten, then abandoned in an Oceanside parking lot is scheduled to become available for adoption Friday.

Marissa was in a crate when she was found by San Diego Humane Society officers in the 2200 block of El Camino Real on Sept. 12, according to the agency.

"The injuries indicate that Marissa was (choked) and beaten before she was abandoned in the crate," said Randy Lawrence, director of humane law enforcement for the humane society. "We've conducted an investigation to find the person responsible, but we have very little information about what happened to Marissa."

Marissa received immediate medical care from the humane society and the SPCA and is now doing well, according to the humane society. She will be available for adoption starting at 11 a.m. at the humane society's main campus at 5500 Gaines St. in San Diego's Morena neighborhood. Adoption requests are handled on a first come, first served basis.

Anyone with information about Marissa's injuries or her prior owners was asked to call the humane society at (619) 243-3466 or San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477. Information leading to an arrest in the case could be worth a reward of up to $1,000, according to Crime Stoppers.
