Woman convicted of DUI crash that killed 3

VISTA, Calif. (AP) — A mother of four has been convicted of a drunken driving crash that killed her fiance and two other people on a San Diego County freeway.

City News Service says 36-year-old Debbie Sumi of San Marcos was convicted Monday of three counts of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. She faces up to 14 years in prison.

Prosecutors say Sumi's blood-alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit when her Jeep Cherokee rear-ended a stopped car on Highway 78 in Vista two years ago.

Sumi was thrown from the Jeep. Larry Alvarez, who'd proposed to Sumi hours earlier, died along with two women who were standing outside the other car.

Sumi's attorney maintained that Alvarez was driving.
