OCEANSIDE (CBS 8) - Dozens of alleged parole and probation violators are behind bars Thursday, after being arrested during a massive sweep involving 15 local law enforcement agencies.

The overnight raids were part of an operation aimed at reducing drug use and crime in local neighborhoods. Fifty people were arrested during Operation Tip the Scale.

More than 200 law enforcement officers from 15 different agencies patrolled the streets of Oceanside and Vista throughout the day Wednesday and into night to check on roughly 160 parolees and probationers.

About 30 people were arrested in the first four hours of the operation, most of them meth-related arrests, and dozens more were taken into custody by nightfall.

Since 2009, authorities have conducted 12 Operation Tip the Scale sweeps. The majority of those targeted served time for drug-related offenses and will be offered drug counseling services.
