CHULA VISTA (CNS / CBS 8) - A 14-year-old Chula Vista boy who fell off his skateboard and was struck by an SUV died in the hospital a short time later, the county coroner's office said Thursday.
The boy was struck in the 800 block of Nacion Avenue about 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.
A witness says the boy was skateboarding down a hill, when he ended up on the wrong side of the road and was hit by a car. Police say he was not wearing a helmet.
Medics rushed him to UCSD Medical Center, where he died at 7:26 p.m., the Medical Examiner's Office reported on its website. His name is withheld pending family notification.
The driver of car has not been cited.
