SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Dozens of sailors from across the U.S., Canada and Australia are in San Diego for the National Disabled Sailing Championships.
The races started Friday at the Southwestern Yacht Club in Shelter Island. Competitors with all types of disabilities, including paraplegics and blind sailors are participating. There are also several wounded warriors.
"Jose, he started sailing only a month ago. He lost both of his legs. When he got into a sailboat he said, 'I've just found what I was meant to do,'" Southwestern Yacht Club Director Sandra Sherman said.
Some sailors are competing for the Paralympics. The races will continue through the weekend.
