EL CAJON (CNS) - An 18-year-old El Cajon man and three teens were arrested in connection with a break-in at a residence while the 21-year-old occupant was unknowingly inside calling police, a lieutenant said Sunday.
Three males rang the doorbell at the house in the 1200 block of Yerba Verde Dr. near Heron Avenue shortly before 8 p.m. Saturday, according to El Cajon police Lt. Tim Henton.
The resident did not answer the door, but kept his eye on the trio who then put on gloves and started peering through windows, Henton said. The resident hid and called police, Henton said. While on the phone with police, the resident heard the suspects inside his house looking around, Henton said.
Arriving officers confronted one suspect as he ran out the front door. He was arrested following a short chase, Henton said.
Another suspect was caught as he fled from the back, Henton said. The third briefly eluded police.
Nothing was taken from the home, Henton said.
A sergeant spotted a car leaving the scene and police linked its driver and occupant to the two suspects already in custody. They were later arrested, Henton said.
Three teens were taken to Juvenile Hall on suspicion of burglary, Henton said.
Mohammed Muhsin Albatat, 18, was booked into jail for suspicion of burglary, conspiracy to commit a crime and an immigration hold, according to Henton and jail records.
