SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Students at UCSD celebrated Halloween with the annual Halloween Festival and Monster Pumpkin Drop.
A 250-pound candy-filled pumpkin was pushed over the edge of 11-story Tioga Hall, the tallest building on the Muir College campus.
Each year the pumpkin's splat is measured. The largest splat in the history of the pumpkin drop was in 1995, when a 398-pound pumpkin spewed over 100 feet.
Some students were surprised by the size and sound of the pumpkin.
"I was expecting the pumpkin to be a little bit bigger but it was pretty cool," one student said.
"It was a louder boom than I thought, it was huge," another student said.
Once the pumpkin hits the ground, students scurry to pick up the candy.
