Art project at airport highlights many uses of trash

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Some new art in the San Diego International Airport is making travelers think about trash in a new light.

Hundreds of students contributed to the New Children's Museum's Youth Art Wall of the San Diego cityscape.

More than 1,500 pieces of recycled trash were used, with the hope of teaching people about the many ways trash can be repurposed.

"Everything here is something that could have been easily thrown in the trash, that instead we used for artwork. It's all a lesson in 'think twice before you throw this away,'" New Children's Museum Director of Marketing Kerri Fox said.

The 35-foot-long installation is at the airport, but you can also visit the New Children's Museum for more fun and information.
