Carlsbad "Fork in the Road" may get permanent home

Posted: Updated:

CARLSBAD (CBS 8) - Carlsbad's popular "fork in the road" sculpture is still making news two weeks after it appeared in a roadway median, and no one's more shocked than the creator himself.

"I had no idea that it would get this kind of attention.  I thought my 15 seconds of fame would be up two weeks ago," sculptor Chuck Carroll said.

Carroll first got the idea for the fork about 30 years ago, when he kept telling people to take "the fork in the road" while giving them directions to his house. He didn't have time to execute his plan until he retired from teaching last year.

The city removed the six-foot-tall structure soon after it went up, but it may get new life. Several Carlsbad restaurants and organizations have expressed interest in giving it a permanent home in front of their businesses.
