SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Crowds of people headed to Fort Rosecrans Cemetery to pay their respects to our fallen heroes this Veterans Day.
Rows upon rows of white crosses mark 1,000 acres of land where some 65,000 veterans are buried. One standout memorial is the 75-foot-tall Bennington Monument, commemorating the crew members who died aboard the USS Bennington in 1905.
In 1852, Fort Rosecrans was declared a military reserve. In 1934, the first plot of land was designated as a burial site.
