Posted: Updated:

POWAY (CBS 8) - Three schools were placed on lockdown early Thursday afternoon in the Scripps Ranch-Poway area while police officers and sheriff's deputies searched for suspects in a burglary, officials said.

School officials locked down the campuses at Dingman Elementary, Ellen Browning Scripps Elementary and Innovations Academy Charter School until further notice while authorities searched near Cypress Canyon.

An unspecified number of suspects were eventually taken into custody later Thursday afternoon. The lockdown at the three schools was subsequently lifted.
