SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - San Diego Gas and Electric showcased Thursday new technology that will give crews vital information about power outages.

The Outage Management System utilizes new smart grid technology that gives SDG&E real-time information about outages, which allows the utility to restore power more quickly and efficiently.

SDG&E is one of the first utilities in the nation to use this new technology on such a large scale.
