LEMON GROVE (CNS) - An investigation was underway Monday into a fire that severely damaged a barber shop and a nail salon in Lemon Grove.

The fire at Angel Veez Barber Shop at 7435 Broadway was reported at 11:38 p.m. Sunday, according to San Diego County sheriff's Sgt. Luis Chavez. The shop was severely damaged by flames and smoke, the sergeant said in a statement.

An adjoining nail salon business also sustained heavy smoke damage, said city of El Cajon and Heartland Fire & Rescue spokeswoman Monica Zech, adding total damage from the fire was estimated at $150,000.

It took crews about a half-hour to knock down the flames, she said.

The Sheriff's Department's bomb/arson unit was heading up the investigation, Chavez said.
