Fire destroys mobile home in El Cajon

Posted: Updated:

EL CAJON (CNS) - A quick response by Heartland Firefighters kept a trailer home completely destroyed by a fire which may have been caused by a space heater from spreading Saturday.

Firefighters were called at 1:25 a.m. to a fire in a trailer park in the 200 block of South Second Street, near Main Street at Jamacha Road.

"Upon arrival, firefighters found a trailer home burning and threatening other nearby trailers," said El Cajon City PIO Monica Zech.

"With the assistance of a crew from the San Miguel Fire Protection District, Heartland firefighters had the fire quickly contained and extinguished in less than 10 minutes."

Zech said the resident escaped unharmed. She said the displaced resident was provided assistance by the park owner and shelter by his neighbors.

No other injuries were reported.

Heartland Fire Marshal Dave Hafey said the trailer home was a total loss. He estimated damages at $15,000.

Neighboring property sustained minor smoke and heat damage.

The cause of the blaze remained under investigation.

If you've ever been stuck sitting in traffic, you've probably seen motorcyclists cutting through lanes and whizzing by. It's a move called lane-splitting, and while it's potentially dangerous, it's perfectly legal.
