Teen awaiting bone marrow transplant skydives

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A local teen who continues to beat the odds celebrated his 18th birthday Monday by skydiving for the first time.

Arturo Sullivan has been on the waiting list for a bone marrow transplant for the past two years. He was born with a form of dwarfism that affected his chest cage, which was too small to accomodate his lungs.

Doctors gave him only a few years to live, but after undergoing more than 50 surgeries, Arturo is still fighting.

He has wanted to skydive since he was 15, and says it was unlike anything he's ever done.

"It was kind of scary once I got out but it was pretty fun. You gotta relax and just sit there," Arturo said.

Arturo is a senior at Granite Hills High School, and will graduate in the spring.
