SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A man is dead after being hit by a car while walking across the street in Torrey Hills Wednesday morning.
The man, who was about 70, was attempting to cross in the 4600 block of Carmel Mountain Road near Ocean Air Drive at about 6:00 a.m. when he was struck by an eastbound vehicle, according to San Diego police Officer Dan Lasher.
The victim was taken to a local trauma center, where he later died.
Investigators believe the driver didn't see the man.
"Speed is not going to be a factor, she was traveling at about 30 miles an hour, slowing down to the next traffic light. And there's an individual in the middle of the street and she strikes the individual," said Sgt. Joe Benavides with the S.D. Police Department
The victim's identity is being withheld until family members are notified.
The occupants of the vehicle were not injured.
The southbound lanes of Carmel Mountain Road were closed between Ocean Air Drive and Vereda Mar Del Corazon, likely until about 10 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
