ESCONDIDO (CNS) - Police were on the lookout Friday for a would-be robber who pistol-whipped an Escondido man and attempted to break into his home along with an accomplice.

A resident in the 1300 block of Foxley Drive near Lake Wohlford Road confronted a ski mask-wearing suspect in his yard about 6:45 a.m. Thursday, but a second masked suspect approached the resident from behind and struck him several times with the grip of a handgun, according to an Escondido Police Department statement.

Another resident tried to exit the home, but the armed assailant pointed the weapon at her, police said. The suspects then ran off in different directions.

Paramedics treated the homeowner at the scene as police unsuccessfully searched the area for the would-be robbers.

One suspect was described as a white woman in her 20s with red hair and a thin build, wearing a black sweatshirt, gray pants and a black ski mask with a skull face. Police described the other as a thin black man of about 30 who wore a black ski mask with a skull face, along with a black hooded sweatshirt and black pants.

Police asked anyone with information on the suspects to contact the Escondido Police Department's Crimes of Violence Unit at (760) 839-4717.
