Suspected DUI driver hits bicyclist in Imperial Beach

Posted: Updated:

IMPERIAL BEACH (CNS) - A woman suspected of drunken driving in a hit-and-run crash involving a bicyclist was in custody Saturday.

The suspect was identified as Linda Jean Stallings, 49, of Imperial Beach, Sheriff's Lt. Scott Amos said.

Amos said the incident occurred at 7:17 p.m. Friday when a male bicyclist was struck by a gold SUV at the intersection of 11th Street and Elm Avenue.

"The car driver fled the scene," said Amos.

Amos said witnesses called the Sheriff's Department with information on the suspect and vehicle.

"During the investigation the suspect, who had driven away, came back to the scene," said Amos. "Witnesses pointed that person out and deputies arrested them for felony drunken driving and hit-and-run."

Deputies later confirmed the suspect lived on 11th Street, a short distance from the accident scene, Amos said.

The bicyclist was transported to UCSD Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Stallings was booked into Las Colinas Women's Detention Facility.

If you've ever been stuck sitting in traffic, you've probably seen motorcyclists cutting through lanes and whizzing by. It's a move called lane-splitting, and while it's potentially dangerous, it's perfectly legal.
