LA MESA (CBS 8) - A water main break has left several residents in a La Mesa neighborhood without water Tuesday morning.

A long stretch of road has been torn apart and as of 6 a.m., crews were still working to stop the flooding.

The water main break was discovered around 1:00 a.m. on the 8500 block of Butte Street, when a resident heard water rushing and went to check it out and saw water shooting out of the street.

Cars were about 6 inches in the water, police were called and arriving officers began blocking off streets around the 8500 block of Butte Street.

Water department crews are on the scene assessing the damage.

If you've ever been stuck sitting in traffic, you've probably seen motorcyclists cutting through lanes and whizzing by. It's a move called lane-splitting, and while it's potentially dangerous, it's perfectly legal.
