New transport van donated to Emilio Nares Foundation

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Children who are being treated for cancer at Rady Children's Hospital have a new resource to help them get to and from chemotherapy.

Local businessman Richard Woltman has donated a new, specially-equipped transport van to the Emilio Nares Foundation, a kids' cancer support group.

The van joins a fleet of vehicles the foundation uses to take kids to and from cancer treatment and doctor's appointments at Rady Children's Hospital.

If we didn't have this van we wouldn't be coming to Rady's. I wouldn't jeopardize my daughter's health because her immune system gets too low. If I bring her on public transportation, she's more likely to get an infection," mother Silvia Johnson said.

The van service transports between 10 and 20 patients a week.
