Arrest made as vigil is held for deadly stabbing victim

Posted: Updated:

(RAMONA) CBS8 - At a candlelight vigil Wednesday evening, family and friends of 34-year-old homicide victim Michael Gabriel Hallman asked for the public's help in bringing everyone involved in his murder to justice.

Hallman, a Ramona native who had been living in San Diego, was found in front of a Chollas Creek home in the early morning hours of September 30, suffering several stab wounds. Police earlier said that Hallman had been involved in a fight that took place on the 5000 block of Sterling Court.

Hallman was rushed to a local hospital, where he died from his stab wounds later that same morning.

"Gabriel was a wonderful guy...  just a big huge heart," said his sister, Claudia Shohara, before Wednesday's candlelight vigil. "He'd give you the shirt off his back."

Hallman, who worked as a massage therapist, was remembered Wednesday as a devoted father to his four-year-old girl, as well as a standout athlete who excelled at soccer.

"He loved to be around the kids and the family," said his mother, Jennifer Hallman. "It's a big, big void."

Gabriel's mother told News 8 that detectives had informed her that an arrest had been made Wednesday in her son's murder. Investigators believe that more than one person may have been involved, according to Hallman.

"We still need a lot of help in the investigation," Jennifer Hallman told News 8. "We're asking anybody to come forward that has any information that could help solve this case."

Anyone with information on Gabriel Hallman's murder is asked to call San Diego Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.

You can remain anonymous, and could receive up to $1000 reward for information.
