Fire breaks out at downtown highrise

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - An investigation is underway to determine the cause of a fire in a downtown apartment building.

Part of Ninth Avenue was briefly shut down Saturday after the fire broke out in the Ava Cortez building in the 1300 block of 9th Avenue.

The fire started on a stovetop and spread to the wall in a unit on the 14th floor.

It is still unclear how much damage the fire caused, but both residents have been displaced.
