Early morning brush fire near I-5 in Palm City

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Firefighters battled a brush fire in Palm City early Wednesday morning in the South Bay.

The blaze ignited in dense brush near Hollister Street and Palm Avenue in the Otay River Bed. Flames were burning near the trolley tracks in the area, however trolley service was not disrupted.

The fire, which charred about half an acre, broke out just before 6:00 a.m. and took fire crews about an hour to extinguish. The cause of the fire is under investigation and no injuries were reported.

Several fire units, as well as a helicopter responded to the scene.
