SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A storm is expected to hit parts of San Diego County this week and that could mean flash flooding, especially in the outer regions of the county.
Some local fire stations will be giving out free sandbags Wednesday to help residents protect their homes, neighborhoods and streets from flooding.
Anyone interested in receiving a free sandbag, needs to bring a shovel to one of seven fire stations and San Diego County's Department of Public Works will provide the free bags and sand to fill them. An eighth fire station is offering bags only.
Residents who live in unincorporated communities can get free sandbags at these locations:
Alpine, 1364 Tavern Road
Bonita, 4900 Bonita Road
Dulzura, 17304 Highway 94
Fallbrook, 4375 Pala Mesa Drive
Julian, 1587 Highway 78
Pauma Valley, 16971 Highway 76
Ramona, 3410 Dye Road.
Valley Center, 28205 N. Lake Wohlford Road
Because San Diego County is dry most of the year, heavy rains can create severe soil erosion, damage homes and properties, flood roads and clog storm drains and culverts.
