SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Former San Diego congressman Randy "Duke" Cunningham is out of prison and has been released to a federal halfway house, where he will finish his sentence.

Prison officials say he was transferred December 5 from a prison in Arizona to a halfway house in New Orleans.

In 2005, Cunningham pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit bribery, mail fraud, wire fraud and tax evasion. He was sentenced to more than eight years in prison.

Cunningham is expected to be released in June 2013.

The San Diego judge who sentenced him says Cunningham plans to live in a remote cabin in Arkansas when he is freed.
