Major Alzheimer's research grants coming to San Diego
SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A major step towards finding a cure for Alzheimer's disease.
Local philanthropist Darlene Shiley lead a major effort to bring funding and research grants to UCSD and the Salk Institute. In total, Shiley has helped bring in $6.5 million to San Diego to go towards finding a cure for Alzheimer's disease.
"There is some hope out there. It isn't all dark and dreary. There are some things being done and a lot of them are happening in San Diego," Shiley said.
Across San Diego County, over 60,000 people are living with Alzheimer's and that number is expected to double over the next 15 years.
