CHULA VISTA, Calif. (AP) — A supporter of the failed mayoral campaign of a Chula Vista councilman has been fined $10,000 for contributing money in other people's names.
U-T San Diego says the state Fair Political Practices Commission fined Ana Maria Gonzalez on Thursday.
Authorities say she circumvented a $300 contribution limit for the 2010 election by asking two friends to donate $300 each and reimbursing them.
She backed councilman Steve Castaneda in his unsuccessful run for mayor. The commission said it found no evidence that Castaneda knew about the wrongdoing.
