Posted: Updated:

SAN MARCOS (CBS 8) - An arrest was made Tuesday in connection with a murder investigation in the North County, officials said.

Daniel Hernandez, 28, was taken into custody at his apartment in Vista. Hernandez is accused of murdering a 41-year-old woman and attempting to kill her 8-year-old daughter at their home in San Marcos.

Friends say the woman was stabbed to death. Sheriff's deputies were called to their San Marcos apartment complex in the 400 block of North Twin Oaks Valley Road at about 3:30 a.m. and discovered the body of the unidentified woman. Deputies also discovered a badly injured eight-year-old girl, possibly the victim of a stabbing.

Late Tuesday afternoon, officials announced the arrest of Hernandez, who was an acquaintance of the woman.

The child was rushed to a local hospital, where she underwent surgery. She was listed in stable condition as of Tuesday evening.
