SAN DIEGO (AP) — A man with a machete who was shot and wounded by a park ranger in San Diego County has pleaded not guilty to assaulting a police officer and assault with a knife.
U-T San Diego says 29-year-old Charles Collins entered the plea Monday from a hospital bed in La Jolla.
Authorities say he was shot last week after he approached rangers with the machete at a homeless camp at Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve.
The rangers were investigating a report that a naked man had been running through the park.
